In preparation for the official opening of the Academic Year 2024-2025, the Philippine Normal University Visayas held Kaathagan 2024: Academic Orientation at the Drilon Covered Court on August 7, 2024.
Students from the 4th-Year, 3rd-Year, and 2nd-Year Councils attended the first session of the program, with the fourth-year students gathering during the morning orientation. Meanwhile, the second-year students, along with the third-year students, attended their orientation in the afternoon.
The orientation was officiated by Dr. Sol P. Abellar, Campus Registrar and Head of the Campus Registrar Unit (CRU), and Dr. Maria Fatima P. Dolendo, Associate Dean for Faculty and Teacher Development (FTD).
Dr. Abellar discussed the academic policies, including the grading system, Leave of Absence (LOA) guidelines, dismissal procedures, and more.
In her talk, she emphasized the importance of seeking help and asking for guidance from her office and the academic advisers regarding academic concerns before taking actions that could affect the students’ academic standing or the school.
Additionally, she provided students with important information on what to prepare for in the new academic year, including possible activities that may require assistance from her office. She also reminded students to visit the registrar’s office during office hours only.
On the other hand, Dr. Dolendo shared the university’s academic plan, highlighting the off-campus and on-campus experiences of the fourth-year students, especially in light of some changes to accommodate the 255 fourth-year students who will be deployed for their off-campus and on-campus activities during the next two consecutive terms.
She briefly explained the academic plan for the lower years, presenting the 9:3 modality, which consists of nine weeks of in-person classes and three weeks of online classes.
“The first two weeks of August will be in person, and the last week of August will be online classes,” she said.
She also announced that the university will have its vacation from November 5, 2024, to January 19, 2025, and that Term 2 will begin on January 20 of the same year.
The orientation aimed to equip students with a clear overview of the school’s academic policies and plans for the new academic term 2024-2025.
